  FAQ

Q: What is the ePartners Program?
A: ePartners is a program that provides the framework for the global business community and the NCSU Department of Computer Science to develop and nurture strong collaborative relationships, as they work toward goals of mutual interest. In return for their generous support, our ePartners enjoy an extensive portfolio of benefits which can be designed and tailored to meet their specific needs.

Q: What is the significance of the term "ePartners"?
A: As you might expect, our Department of Computer Science is at the forefront of developing talent and leading-edge research to power the "electronic" revolution, but the "e" signifies so much more than that. It stands for "excellence" as in the quality of our faculty, students, and research. It stands for "engaging" as in the ongoing interaction and relationships it fosters. It stands for "exchange" as in the constant opportunities for two-way exchange of ideas and information. It stands for "enrichment" as in the positive impact it produces for our departmental programs and the overall quality of the educational experience.

Q: My company isn't hiring now; why would I need ePartners?
A: While the recruiting benefits offered by the ePartners Program are both exclusive and valuable, they are but a small part of the overall benefits portfolio. Our ePartners gain valuable branding, marketing, and image exposure via a number of communications vehicles that allow them to target their messages and positively shape the perceptions of thousands of students, faculty, and alumni. ePartners stay informed through university and departmental publications, and they have the exclusive opportunity to attend seminars and distinguished lecture series. The program also provides an ongoing opportunity for interaction and exchange of ideas with a dynamic faculty which can generate new business solutions as well as shape the CSC curriculum of the future. Finally, Super ePartners enjoy the added benefits of dedicated Sr Design Center projects and major event sponsorship. While a company's staffing activity will fluctuate with market pressures, the demand for leading-edge resources is constant. By becoming an ePartners, you will be investing in the future regardless of their immediate hiring plans!

Q: What are the major differences between an ePartner and a Super ePartner?
A: Super ePartners enjoy all the benefits afforded to ePartners plus they receive complimentary naming rights sponsorship to one or more major departmental events or publications, they are receive a feature page on the ePartners web site, and they can choose between two Sr Design Center Projects annually or sponsorship of an Honors Course for one semester. These benefits which promote a higher degree of departmental exposure and structured interaction with students and faculty provide our Super ePartners an opportunity to become more deeply involved in the activities and direction of the department.

Q: My company supports the Department of Computer Science in other ways (scholarships, equipment gifts, endowments, etc.); Can these gifts be factored toward my ePartners membership?
A: Absolutely! We recognize that many of our strongest partners support the department in numerous ways. The value of other major gifts of financial support or gifts-in-kind can be taken into consideration to establish a mutually agreeable unrestricted gift contribution for ePartners membership. Such situations are addressed on a case-by-case basis, so contact Ken Tate, Director of the ePartners Program - (919) 513-4292 to discuss your specific request.

Q: How will the department use our ePartners annual contributions?
A: Because of the unrestricted nature of all ePartners contributions, the department has tremendous flexibility to allocate funding to a number of different programs and needs that support our goal to be a "top 10 public department of computer science". Examples of how your contributions are used include support of strategic academic programs, new faculty, classroom & instructional technology upgrades, building & space expansion, curriculum innovations, technical support, publicity & marketing efforts, and travel for students and staff. In addition, a portion of your contributions are allocated to supporting your designated sponsorship activities such as ACM/AITM meetings, or major events & publications if you are a Super ePartner. Also, a portion of each Super ePartner's contributions go toward funding their Sr Design Center Projects.

Q: What kind of "return on investment" can I expect as an ePartner?
A: Membership in the ePartners Program should definitely be viewed as a business investment rather than a charitable contribution or a corporate expense. Your actual "return on investment" (or ROI) will depend greatly on the benefits you choose to take advantage of, but as a general rule, you can expect your ePartners investment to yield an ROI of 200-300%. As an ePartner, the potential marketing value of the branding exposure & visibility you will receive far exceeds your membership fees. Our exclusive recruiting access and tools are designed to help you reduce your "cost per hire" by 30-50%. Further, every Sr Design Center project yields an expected ROI of 200-300% as they deliver over 600 hours of dedicated work at a fraction of the cost of comparable contract labor. Finally, and possibly most important, our graduates are not only technically skilled when they leave NCSU, they possess outstanding teaming and communications skills which help accelerate their "time to performance". Our ePartners are in the best position to acquire the skills of these future leaders.

Q: We have a small start-up; how could I benefit from being an ePartner?
A: Being an ePartner can help a start-up in several ways. First, it provides you tremendous exposure and visibility, not only within our community of over 4,000 alumni and staff, but to an extended global community of key business leaders. This targeted exposure can help you build corporate and brand awareness, and can help you shape a very positive image of your company. In essence, being an ePartner provides you extremely cost-effective advertising. Second, the access you have to a dynamic leading-edge faculty can serve as a collaborative source of ideas, feedback, and innovation to support your strategic business direction. And finally, should your business plans include expansion and/or require very unique skills, you will have access to world-class talent with the opportunity to shape the CSC curriculum of the future to support your talent requirements.

Q: What types of communications will I receive as an ePartner?
A: As an ePartner, you will receive our Connected Newsletter, our monthly electronic ePartners Update, as well as numerous publications from the College of Engineering and the university. In addition, you will receive special lecture and/or seminar notices, white papers, key departmental announcements, and other forms of departmental communications. Finally, the ePartner web site has been redesigned to provide more up-to-date news and information, so add it to your "favorites" list and check it frequently.

Q: Who is eligible to submit resumes on the CSC Resume System?
A: Only students majoring or minoring in CSC are eligible. The system is available to qualified graduate and undergraduate students as well as CSC alumni.

Contributors of such non-ePartners specific donations valued at $1,000 or more during a calendar year are recognized as Corporate Friends. For more information, contact Ken Tate, Director of the ePartners Program - (919) 513-4292

Q: Can alumni be ePartners?
A: While the ePartners Program was specifically designed to facilitate partnerships between the global business community and the NCSU Department of Computer Science, the "e" in ePartners also stands for "everyone".
