  Naming Rights

Officially created in 1967, the NCSU Department of Computer Science is not only one of the nation's first, it is also recognized among the nation's largest, fastest growing & venerable CS Departments. In 2005, our elite status will be complemented by a move into one of the most technologically advanced computer science teaching and research facilities in the world.

Centennial Campus Building Design

In 2005, the NCSU Dept of Computer Science will move into a new $41M, 210,000 sq ft teaching & research facility located on Centennial Campus. Co-located in the building will be the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. The building's construction will be paid for by state funds approved in a bond referendum several years ago. Construction of this massive state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to begin by year-end 2003, with the official groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for October 24th, 2003.

NCSU's Board of Trustees has approved the Naming Rights plan, which provides opportunities for both corporations and individuals ranging from offices, labs, classrooms, conference rooms, and common areas to the entire building. Consistent with university guidelines, all named spaces require a minimum donation of at least ½ the original construction cost of that space. Sample naming opportunities are provided below.

The primary goal of the "naming rights" campaign is to provide for growth in NCSU's endowment levels, which rank far behind many of our peer institutions such as Virginia Tech, Purdue and Georgia Tech. Per University guidelines, 50% of a qualifying donation must be allocated toward an "unrestricted" endowment. The remainder can be added to an existing cash fund or endowment, or it can be used to create a new endowment in alignment with the donor's interests and the department's most critical needs (professorships, graduate fellowships, etc.). Multi-year pledges will be accepted. The "naming rights" program essentially offers a unique multi-legacy gift opportunity for the donor through the creation of a named endowment and the honor of being recognized with a permanent named space in the new building.

Sample Named Space Options

  • Entire Building $20M
  • Department / ½ Building (CSC's wing) $10M
  • Glass Atrium (2) / Outdoor Terrace $1M - 1.5M each
  • Large Lecture Halls (4 or more) $1M each
